Taking The Pressure Off

Things have changed big time at Celtic. Last season Leigh Griffiths banged in 40 goals to keep us ahead of the pack and it was largely thanks to this man's efforts that we eventually won the league at a canter. Make no mistake about it, had Griff gone down injured at a crucial stage of last season there is a chance Deila's Celtic team would have struggled to get over the line. Thankfully he didn't and the Bhoys secured their 5th consecutive league title. This season things are VERY different..
Brendan Rodgers must have recognized our over reliance one one man because two of his acquisitions were guys who can hit the back of the net: Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair have goals in them and their contribution to the team has taken the pressure of Griffiths. The fact that both players were practically stolen from the English Premier League makes it all the sweeter. Sinclair came in for a cool £3m while Dembele moved north for the paltry compensation fee of £500,000. Two players of genuine quality from English football for a combined fee of 3.5m How good is that? Nowadays you couldn't buy a Premier League kit man for 3.5m with the over inflated prices and even more inflated ego's. Best league in the world eh? "Aye Right" as ma auld Dad would say.

In a nutshell BR and Celtic have been extremely shrewd and with Sinclair easily worth double his price and Dembele looking likely to be Scottish Football's first 15 million pound player, the Chief Executive can afford to bask in the fans goodwill for a change. Celtic have good attacking options with the triple threat of Dembele, Sinclair and Griffiths. All of this without mentioning the resurgent James Forrest who is emerging as a player who can get us goals when we need them. Young James has burst the net 5 times this term and if he can stay injury free will be aiming to continue his run. Things are looking up and if Leigh Griffiths does get injured this season,.. well at least the whole stadium won't be holding their breath and fearing the worst.
