4 Points Imperative For Celts

Wednesday night is only the first of two absolutely vital games for Celtic. German cracks Monchengladbach come to Paradise with probably the same attitude most first timers do: That we will be a walkover and all they have to do is turn up to secure victory. What they won't be expecting will be the tremendous vocal support of the Celtic fans that have carried us to historic results against teams far better than the Germans. Nir Bitton spoke about it today when he claimed they will never have experienced an atmosphere like it, and he's bang on the money. If we get right behind the team and they play well, we can help them soar to new heights and pick up an absolutely vital 3 points with the away trip to Germany scheduled for the 1st November. Both these matches will undoubtedly decide our European fate and we must take every oppurtunity to ensure it stays in our own hands.
If Celtic can secure a home victory it would put us 4 points clear of the Germans at the halfway point of the group. A lovely position to be in if our goal is to command third place and the Europa League spot that goes with it. However it is also worth noting that if we could go and snatch a draw in the away game we would be in a position to challenge for at least second place. Impossible some might say but scoffing at the idea ignores just how damn unpredictable football can be at times. There seems to be this complacency with teams who come up against us. Every one of them underestimate Celtic and that is why I am 99% sure we will take the Germans at Celtic Park. Gaining a point away as well would be an absolutely tremendous achievement and practically guarantee third place.

In order to do this we need our top players to be on their game. Scott Brown will be ever so important in that midfield and if he takes the game by the scruff of the neck it will allow other more creative players to get on the ball and make something happen, especially at home.Sinclair and Forrest will cause all sorts of problems down the wings and once again Brendan Rodgers will be left with the decision to go with either Griffiths or Dembele. It's a headscratcher of the highest order and instead of speculating let's leave that call to the manager. That's why we pay him the big bucks after all. Whatever happens let's hope the bhoys do us proud!
