Brendan's Very Different Managerial Headaches

Being Brendan Rodgers must feel like a mixed bag of headaches at the moment. On the one hand our new gaffer has the luxury of trying to find a place in the same team for 40 goal Leigh Griffiths and up and coming superstar Moussa Dembele: Surely the type of headache that every manager can cope with? However on the other hand he is being put between a rock and a hard place by his decision to play either Craig Gordon or Dorus De Vries in the Celtic goal. It is undoubtedly the latter of the two headaches which will have Brendan reaching for the paracetamol as he seeks to steer Celtic to a magnificent treble and secure European football until after Santa's put his sleigh away.

Brendan's first few months in charge saw Craig get the nod but it soon became clear to the manager what the rest of us saw in the doomed Delia era: Mainly that Craig Gordon could be prone to one too many costly mistakes, particularly at his near post. De Vries was signed and Gordon was promptly dropped as Rodgers talked up his new acquisition's ball playing abilities just in time for the trip to Barcelona. Disaster struck and De Vries ended up picking the ball out of his net no less than 7 times and while there is no shame in losing to Catalan masters, most fans were rightly concerned about our keeper's shot stopping abilities. Indeed De Vries was dropped soon after with Brendan admitting he had been too quick to write Gordon off and the big Scot was re-instated as Man City were preparing to cross the border to Paradise.

Since being back in the team, Gordon has been given a new lease of life and one must wonder if being dropped was the kick up the backside the big man needed. Blameless for Man City's goals and a clean sheet against Dundee proved that Gordon has knuckled down and maybe that spell on the sidelines has taken him out of the firing line for long enough to see he was performing way below his and Celtic's expectations. It has all the hallmarks of looking like a masterstroke from a manager who seems to be getting the big calls right more often and not. If Gordon can continue his good form it will only serve to make the hoops stronger and the only manager with a headache will be the one managing whichever team we face next.

Do you agree Craig Gordon has been better on his return? Maybe you think De Vries should be in the starting lineup? Do you believe Celtic should sign a new keeper and drop both? Let us know in the comments section below.
